Frequently asked questions about Corundum Powder

Corundum Powder is a mineral abrasive used for grinding, lapping, blasting and machining processes.
Due to its high hardness, it is suitable for processing metals, ceramics, glass and other hard materials.

Corundum Powder is characterized by:

  • high hardness (Mohs 9)
  • high toughness
  • excellent grinding performance
  • high wear resistance
  • uniform grain structure

These properties make it a versatile abrasive for industrial and workshop applications.

Brown fused alumina consists of approximately:

  • 95 – 96% aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃)
  • approx. 3% titanium oxide (TiO₂)

The titanium oxide content gives brown fused alumina its characteristic color and high toughness.

Corundum Powder is suitable for:

  • steel
  • stainless steel
  • cast iron
  • non-ferrous metals
  • glass
  • ceramics
  • stone

The appropriate grit size depends on the required material removal rate and surface finish.

Macro grit sizes are used for coarser grinding and blasting applications.
The micro grit range starts at approximately 50 µm and below and is suitable for finer finishing and polishing processes.

The brown color is caused by the titanium oxide content. At the same time, titanium oxide increases the toughness of the abrasive grain and improves its durability.

Corundum is particularly suitable for general grinding and lapping applications where cost-effectiveness and long service life are important.

For extremely hard materials or high-precision polishing applications, diamond powder or diamand lapping paste may be the better choice.

Its uniform grain structure and high hardness make Corundum Powder a proven lapping abrasive for many metallic and mineral materials
